Tropical Shipping Duathlon at Port de Plaisance on Sunday

Tropical Poster 2015

Registration is open for Sunday’s Tropical Duathlon! You can sign up as an individual in theMen, women or Junior Category (under 18 is the Junior division), as a team of two, or a Corporate Team of 3, as well as the School Category which shortens the course to 2.5Km Run, 8Km Bike and 1.25Km Run instead of the standard distance of 5/20/2.5.

Entry into the School Category is free, thanks to Tropical Shipping’s support of the event! All others pay $15 per person which includes a finisher’s T-Shirt (yes, you have to finish!), a Tropical shipping shopping bag and a healthy breakfast after the race.

Corporate teams of 1, 2 or three athletes, pay $175 which goes towards funding tours for less fortunate kids on the island.

The race kicks off at 7am with running laps inside of Port de Plaisance. Each lap is 1.2Km, and everyone does 4 laps except for the School category racers who complete two laps. Finish your run and head into the transition area to tag your team mate or grab your bicycle if you are competing as an individual, and ride to the causeway. Cross over the causeway and head towards the airport where you will turn around the roundabout with the Pelicans. Return to the causeway and turn at the roundabout on the Colebay side of the causeway. At this point, the school entrees will return to Port de Plaisance, but everyone else will complete three laps of this course (so turning around the Pelicans three times) before heading back into Port de Plaisance.

Tag your runner or slip on your shoes and head out for another two laps of the flat running loop. School athletes will complete one lap.

Breakfast and prize giving follows at the pool and restaurant at the Country Club Gym.

If you do not have a bicycle but would like to join, feel free to call us at 545-4384 to reserve a bicycle. Hybrids and mountain bikes are being offered at a special weekend rate of $25 while racing bikes are $35.

Hope to see you there for this great event.
